What Tools Do I Need to Run a Vending Business?

Vending is the kind of business most people want to get into because they see it as a low-cost, low-maintenance way to make extra money. While this can be true, you must also prepare yourself with the right tools and equipment to run your vending operation as efficiently and professionally as possible.

If this is your first venture into vending, no worries! As long as you have most of what’s discussed in this blog post, you should be on your way to making money and succeeding in your vending business! In order to start making money on your vending machine, you have to get it to a location first!

If you only have a few snack, soda, candy, or combo vending machines, we recommend getting a box-style van with AC to transport your machines and product. (The AC will help prevent your product from melting.) If you’re running a larger vending operation with more machines, you might want to buy a trailer as well. In order to move the machines around, you will need a utility dolly. The best ones will rest at a 45 degree angle, and have 4-6 wheels. You could also use a pallet jack; however the utility dollies are better suited to large machines.

Make sure to store your product in a clean, dry, climate-controlled building to prevent melting, contamination, etc.   When you’re ready to stock/re-stock your product, you can use a cart to carry the product from your van to your vending machines, which will save you multiple trips and make your operation look more professional.

You will also want to carry a money bag with you so that you can empty your vending machine at the same time that you re-stock it. Once you have the tools necessary to run your vending business, you can focus on promoting your services and personalizing your image.

Any business these days, no matter how small, should have a website. There are several free web development services available to the public, such as WordPress.com, Wix.com, Weebly.com, etc. You will definitely need business cards and/or brochures about your vending services, which will spread the word about your operation even more.

What have you acquired for your vending business that you would no longer be able to live without? We’d love to hear from you! Whether you have a healthy vending business, a bulk candy machine route, or other vending machines, buying the right tools will help you save tons of money!
